GUWAHATI, Nov 5 Troops of the Assam Rifles killed four NSCN (I-M) members in two separate incidents in Dima Hasao district, while the Songbijit faction of the National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) received a blow as a hard-core member of the outfit was killed in an encounter with the Army and the police in Kokrajhar district.

Army sources said that Pillip Wary, the second in command of the Gossaigaon platoon of the NDFB (S), was killed in an encounter with the Army personnel of the Red Horns Division and the police in the Riphu reserve forest.

The Army also recovered two pistols, two grenades and ammunition from the slain militant. The Assam Government had earlier announced a cash award of Rs 5 lakh to anyone providing information about the militant.

Meanwhile, in two separate operations within 24 hours, the Dima Hasao-based Assam Rifles under HQ IGAR(E), along with the Assam Police, have neutralised four militants of the NSCN (IM). The first operation was conducted on November 3 near Kopilo village in Dima Hasao district near the Assam, Nagaland and Manipur tri-junction, an area frequented by NSCN (IM) cadres for their transit to Assam. The operation was launched at night and lasted a few hours, which resulted in the killing of one cadre, while it is assessed that two more cadres succumbed to their bullet injuries during their escape. One lone body has been recovered and a thorough search is being done to recover two more bodies. The total recovery includes one AK-47 rifle, one Lathod rifle, one hand grenade and more than 100 rounds of ammunition.

The second operation was launched yesterday at Robi Basti, 4 km from Haflong, resulting in the neutralisation of three more NSCN(IM) cadres. These cadres were active in areas around Malangpa village in Dima Hasao district. The total recovery includes two AK-series rifles, 73 rounds of ammunition and other war-like stores.
