5 convicted for cheating ONGCL of Rs 1.38 cr

GUWAHATI, July 26 � The Special Judge, Guwahati, has convicted Suraj Kamal Dutta and Prabin Kumar Hazarika, both former senior finance and accounts officers; Biswanath Mech and Bijoy Kumar Kahar, both former accounts assistant, grade-I of the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (ONGCL), ERBC, Sivasagar and sentenced them to undergo one year rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs 20,000 each for cheating the ONGCL to the tune of around Rs 1.38 crore.

One more person Main-uddin Ahmed alias Babul Bora has also been sentenced to undergo two years rigorous imprisonment with fine of Rs 20,000, stated a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) press release.

The CBI filed a charge sheet in the case on December 29, 2000 under Sections 120B, 420, 468, 471 IPC and Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1) (d) of P C Act. 1988 in the court of Special Judge against the accused persons.
