5 Bihu artistes among 6 killed in Digboi road mishap

TINSUKIA, April 24 � At least six persons � two women and three men of a Bihu troupe � and the driver of the bus died on the spot in a road mishap at Digboi in the wee hours today.

The accident took place when the Tata Winger, in which the 18-member Bihu troupe of the Birina Hunsori Dol of Pengeree in Tinsukia district was returning after their Bihu performance at the Swargadeo Sarbananda Singha Stadium at Boroguri Bihutoli in Tinsukia last night, collided head on with a dumper in front of Digboi Lions Club at Ramnagar.

Two women � Ani Gogoi and Deepika Moran � died on the spot, while one died at the Tinsukia Civil Hospital. Akash Pratim Sharma, Biswajit Chetia and Khagen Das were the other casualties. The driver of the Winger, Sanjib Chakhap also died on the spot.

All the other injured persons of the troupe have been sent to the Assam Medical College Hospital at Dibrugarh.

Prior to performing at Tinsukia, the troupe performed Bihu at Kakopathar on the same night.
