48-hr Manipur bandh from tomorrow

By Sobhapati Samom

IMPHAL, June 20 A 48- hour bandh has been called by Kuki Students Organisation (KSO) from June 22 midnight. The bandh is in protest against the alleged indifferent attitude of the Manipur Government with regard to encroachment on its office plot and the Nongbram killing case.

According to a KSO functionary, a plot at 2nd MR Gate here, where the KSO planned to construct its office, was acquired by the Government for construction of a 5-Star Hotel. A KSO delegation called on the Chief Minister who reportedly assured that all possible measures would be taken up to find an amicable solution on the issue.

However, neither the Chief Minister nor any official made any official intimation till date, the student leader informed and claimed that the plot was actually owned by one LS Thangjom.

With regard to the slaying of two Kuki students Paosat Kipgen and Paolenlal Chongloi at Nongbrang village in 2009 on alleged charges of being extortionists, the Chief Minister had assured that Government jobs would be provided to next of kins of the victims in addition to construction of a memorial for the two students, he added. But there is no evidence of the Manipur Government translating the promise into reality, alleged the KSO leader while condemning such indifferent attitude of the State authorities.
