46 ailing scribes to get financial aid

GUWAHATI, Feb 7 - In order to provide financial assistance to ailing journalists and their dependants, the names of 46 scribes have been selected by a selection committee constituted by the State government under the Journalists Medical Welfare Scheme.

After thorough scrutiny of the required supporting documents and considering the nature of the disease, the names of the journalists were selected at a meeting held here today.

The selection committee approved a total financial grant of Rs 13.60 lakh to the 46 journalists.

The meeting was presided over by Additional Chief Secretary (Information and Public Relations Department) Kumar Sanjay Krishna. It was attended by Dr B Bordoloi, Joint Director of the Directorate of Health Services, Rajib Prakash Baruah, OSD at the Information and Public Relations Department, Anupam Choudhury, Director of Information and Public Relations Department, and senior journalists and members of the selection committee Pranoy Bordoloi and Ajit Sharma.

It may be mentioned that till date 225 journalists have received financial assistance worth Rs 94,76,343. This financial assistance has been provided from the corpus fund of the scheme.
