45 candidates remain unopposed in Dhubri district

DHUBRI, Nov 28 - Altogether 29 gaon panchayat members and four anchalik prishad members of Dhubri subdivision and 12 gaon panchayat members of Bilasipara subdivision have remained unopposed for the ensuing Panchayat election. However, the official announcement of their victory is yet to be made.

For Dhubri subdivision, to elect four-level representatives under 17 ZPCs as many as 3,719 nominations have been received, but the nominations of 239 candidates were either withdrawn or cancelled for various reasons. Moreover, out of the 3,480 candidates, 33 candidates remained uncontested, in various rural areas of the subdivision. Meanwhile, nominations for the 2,770 gaon panchayat members, 350 gaon panchayat president, 295 anchalik parishad members and 65 zila parishad members have been finalised.

However, for seven ZPCs under Bilasipara subdivision, nominations of almost 1,911 candidates have been finalised for the polls. Out of these candidates, four gaon panchayat nominations from BJP and eight candidates from Indian National Congress remain uncontested.

Interestingly, while 802 members are contesting the polls as independent candidates from Dhubri subdivision, from Bilasipara subdivision 95 are contesting as independent candidates for the polls.

Meanwhile, the district administration through an order has declared that all the buildings of the BN College and its playground will be used by the administration for counting of votes and other election-related process.
