AGARTALA, Feb 20 Border Security Force (BSF) has seized a huge quantity of marijuana worth Rs 25 lakh from Baijjantipur, a bordering area, about 35 km from here, BSF sources said.
Acting on a tip-off, BSF and Tripura Excise department personnel raided the area on Wednesday and recovered a plastic bag full of ganja, which the smugglers wanted to throw over the barbed wire fencing.
There were rackets involved in illegal cultivation of cannabis, particularly in the bordering areas taking advantage of the sparse habitations, he said.
Till December last, the BSF destroyed Bangladesh-bound ganja worth more than Rs 8 crore and other contraband worth Rs 15 crore in Tripura, he added. PTI
