40 villages inundated in Barama, Tihu

BARAMA, Sept 2 - As many as 40 villages, particularly under Barama and Tihu Revenue circles, have been badly affected by floods of the Marapagaldia river. The dyke of Marapagaldia river has got breached in many places.

The overall flood situation is still grim. Thousands of farmers of Barama and Tihu revenue circles were the worst hit as paddy cultivation at Caranpara, Alagjhar, Kaljar, Juluki, Garmara, Kadamtala, Merkuchi, Murkuchiapara, Bangnapara, Kharua, Madhapur, Bhogpur, Murmela, Namati, Nakuchi, Bhurkuchi, Chapra, Bamunbari, Karemura, Kadamtal, Sialmari, Ratanpur, Hatipara, Kaharpara, Uttarbarli, Bali, Haribhanga, Barpit, Pamoipara, Bhaira, Piplibari, Paschim Barpit, Bhojkuchi, Kendubari, Nannatari etc., was totally submerged. Many rural roads were still under flood waters, causing a great deal of inconvenience to pedestrians.

The Marapagaldia river is flowing above the danger mark. Shops and many schools were alo badly affected. The Marapagaldia river is expected to rise further at different points. Fear psychosis prevails in the affected villages following the grim flood. Dr Bhumidhar Barman, the Revenue Minister, visited the flood-affected areas and took stock of the situation.
