4 students from RSS-run schools get positions

GUWAHATI, May 15 - Four position holders in the HSLC, including the topper, are from schools which function under Vidya Bharati, the educational wing of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

Altogether 7,614 students had appeared from this year�s HSLC from 263 schools in the Vidya Bharati network. They registered a pass percentage of 94, with 4,210 students getting the first division, 2,227 securing the second division and 792 and 1,186 students clearing the hurdle with distinction and star marks.

The pass percentage was 100 in as many as 114 schools. The schools also produced highest scorers in Sanskrit, Hindi, Science, Social Science, General Mathematics, Geography and Advanced Mathematics.

The topper, Meghashree Borah is from Sankardev Shishu Bidya Niketan in Narayanpur. She got 594 marks. Three students � Anirban Dutta of BL Beria Saraswati Sishu Mandir (Dibrugarh), Manisha Malakar of Sankardev Vidya Niketan (Hajo) and Deep Jyoti Sarma of Sankardev Vidya Niketan (Tihu) � stood joint 10th in the list of 39 rank holders.

Last year, the Vidya Bharati schools had registered a pass percentage of 93 and they had three rank holders.

�Besides the effort of the students, the managing committees of the schools and selfless service rendered by the teachers led to the success of the schools,� organizing secretary of Vidya Bharati Purvottar Kshetra Hemanta Dhing Mazumdar said.

The number of schools under the RSS-affiliated institution is increasing every year.

Over 647 schools are currently running under Vidya Bharati Purvottar Kshetra, of which 551 alone are in the Brahmaputra Valley. The enrolment in these schools is over 1.66 lakh. Besides them, there are 540 �Ekal Vidyalays� (single teacher school) and Sanskar Kendras in Karbi Anglong and Kokrajhar.
