4-day fest of GU Commerce dept from today

JALUKBARI, May 4 - A four-day festival called Manifest Kommercio will be organised by the Department of Commerce, Gauhati University, for the second year from May 5 to 8.

The festival provides students a platform to showcase their talent amid hectic education schedules�in various events like music, folk dance, cultural rally, sports, photography, drama, skit, mime, etc.

The chief guest of the inaugural function on the first day will be Dr RM Pant, Director, NIRD, and the invited guest will be Dr Arup Kumar Mishra, Director of Assam Science Environment and Technology Council. The function will be presided over by Dr Mridul Hazarika Vice Chancellor of the Gauhati University.

Prominent singer Manjyotsna Mahanta and violin maestro Deepak Baruah will be felicitated in the festival. On May 6, the Commerce department will organise an awareness programme on the Anti- Tobacco Day as part of the UN programme in association with Dr B Borooah Cancer Institute, Guwahati, and GLP Social Circle, Guwahati.

The entire month of May has been declared as the Anti-Tobacco Month. On May 7, the organisers will hold an entrepreneurship meet titled Startup Mantra and Make in India with some prominent industrialists and entrepreneurs from the State.

On May 8, the valedictory function will be attended by the Chancellor of the Gauhati University and the Governor of Assam and Nagaland, PB Acharya,

The closing ceremony will also be attended by Durlav Bhattcharya, head of the Department, Applied Art, Art College, and noted theatre personality Dulal Roy. Young singer Nahid Afrin will also be felicitated.

On behalf of the organising committee, Dr Bhaskar Jyoti Bora, head of the department, has invited Commerce students, teachers and other alumni of the Commerce department working in different institutions spread across the country to attend the festival.
