TURA, Nov 30 - Four cadres of the Achik Matgrik Elite Force (AMEF) today gave up arms before the police at Rongjeng in East Garo Hills district.
The cadres identified as Niksrang alias Rarik, Chiseng alias Guare, Basrang alias Asilang and Sudrakar alias Mikjrao surrendered along with arms and ammunition. The cadres said they wanted to return to the mainstream after being fed up of �jungle life�. Three were originally from GNLA before defecting to ASAK and then to AMEF.
The rebels laid down a AK 56, AK 81, carbine, pistol, 78 AK rounds, 9 mm rounds, .32 rounds, demand pads and receipt book.
The IGP expressed hope of more such surrenders from AMEF in the coming days.
Meanwhile, a cadre of Achik National Liberation Army (ANLA) was yesterday apprehended by police in North Garo Hills.
Upon interrogation of the cadre, Saddam A Sangma, the police was able to arrest the finance secretary of the outfit Binod Sangma from Rongjeng. Police also arrested a rebel belonging to ASAK from Gabil Bisa village in East Garo Hills district.
