371 km of East West Corridor completed

GUWAHATI, March 26 � A length of 371.07 km of the 620.75-km East West Corridor in the State has been completed till date. The corridor starts at Srirampur and extends up to Silchar.

On the other hand, different preliminary works including alignment plan, feasibility study, DPR preparation, land acquisition, etc., of the four-lane highway from Nagaon to Dibrugarh has started, and the time for actual commence of construction work has not been yet fixed.

Revealing this while answering a question from Keshab Mahanta (AGP), PWD Minister Ajanta Neog today told the Assembly that the cost of the East West Corridor has escalated from the original Rs 5,649.77 crore to Rs 7,145.10 crore, and this is likely to increase further.

She also said that work of the project got delayed due to problems in land acquisition, forest clearance for cutting trees, transfer of electric poles, etc.
