SILCHAR, Oct 6 - In sync with other districts in the State, land allotment certificates were distributed to landless indigenous people in Cachar district here on Monday.
Out of the 3,631 beneficiaries, 50 beneficiaries were handed over the allotment certificates ceremonially by Minister for Environment & Forest, Fisheries and Excise Parimal Suklabaidya and other dignitaries at Banga Bhawan.
Speaking on the occasion, Suklabaidya said, �according to the land rights policy, the landless indigenous people who have been occupying land for years together without being the owner have been given greatest gift.� �The BJP-led government led by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has fulfilled the hopes and aspirations of one lakh sons of the soil by giving them land rights,� he said.
The Minister said the present government has ushered in change on various fronts be it in improving communication and implementing a slew of people oriented schemes such as 10 kg rice per head, widow and old age pension and health benefits under Atal Amrit and Ayushman Bharat Yojana.
Further talking about his own department of Fisheries, the minister informed that the State is self sufficient on the fish front with production of around 3.5 lakh metric tonnes. Earlier, MLAs Dilip Kumar Paul, Mihir Kanti Shome, Kishor Nath and Amar Chand Jain termed the distribution of land pattas in the three districts of Barak Valley and in other districts of the State as a historic day and a fulfilment of people's hopes and aspirations.
Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli termed the distribution of land pattas as a red letter day which would enable the beneficiaries to avail various government schemes.
In a similar ceremonial event, out of the 1,002 landless indigenous persons in Karimganj district, 138 beneficiaries were given away the allotment certificates at the District Library auditorium by MP Kripanath Mallah in the presence of MLAs Krishnendu Paul, Jamal Uddin Ahmed and Bijoy Malakar and other officials. �The Government has kept its promise. This is a huge moment for the entire State as the allotment of land pattas has brought big cheers in the faces of the landless indigenous people,� the MP said. Deputy Commissioner Anbamuthan MP said that as per the 2019 Land Policy of the State Government, 1,002 persons have been given allotment certificates of owning 3 bigha of land each.
