32nd annual congress of AAM held

GUWAHATI, March 21 - The thirty-second annual congress of the Assam Academy of Mathematics was held at Arya Vidyapeeth College recently.

On the occasion the Haliram Dutta memorial gold medal was presented to the highest mark holder in mathematics in the Class XII examination held by AHSEC. Dr Ranjana Choudhury, retired teacher of Handique Girls� College was feted for her contribution towards mathematics education.

Dr Bipuljyoti Saikia, author and scientist at the Centre for Plasma Physics, Tepesia, delivered the annual Radha Charan Gupta memorial lecture on the history of emergence of �e�, the famous Euler�s number that evolved in the early seventeenth century.

The AAM research journal edited by Prof Rita Choudhury and Ganit Bikash, the half-yearly journal of AAM edited by Dr Chandra Rekha Mahanta both from the Dept of Mathematics, GU, were released.

AAM president Dr Prabin Das urged the members to strive to expand the mathematics base of the students and teachers. The meeting was attended by AAM founder general secretary Dr Tarakeswar Choudhury, former presidents, general secretaries, members and about 100 students of the college.

The new committee was formed with Dr Ram Ch Deka as president, Dr Jnanjyoti Sarma as general secretary, Dr Rita Choudhury as vice president and Dr Ashish Paul and Dr Ujjal Medhi as joint secretaries.
