JORHAT, Feb 6: Three youths of upper Assam – all MCA PG degree holders from the Jorhat Engineering College – after forming a start-up has developed a free app named – TipTeapi – a video playing and sharing app primarily for entertainment purposes.

TipTeapi, perhaps first of its kind app developed in Assam or may be in the entire north-eastern region, was launched on Saturday at the Jorhat Press Club. The three youths who have developed the app are – Saswati Kotoky (Dergaon), Amarjyoti Gautam (Jorhat) and Himanga Madhukalya (Dibrugarh).

They said the app was aimed at providing a platform for people to showcase their various talents by uploading their own videos and be able to be viewed by others.

Describing the app, the trio said that TipTeapi was available in the Playstore and could be downloaded for viewing and uploading videos. Claiming that the app was safe and secured having privacy protection unlike Chinese apps that were banned by the Central Government last year, Kotoky stated that the app has different categories. She said short videos of funny acts, drama, cooking, beauty etc., could be uploaded in the app and viewed. Kotoky added that science and education category too were available in the app. Users can ‘like’, ‘comment’ and ‘share’ the videos through social media, she said.

Regarding any objectionable material getting uploaded, Kotoky said that if any such incidents occur and complaint was received from any user or viewer they will look into it and block the video, if required. Speaking about how the idea to form a start-up and develop an app got shaped, Gautam said after getting the PG degrees in 2019 the three of them decided to do something else on their own rather than searching for jobs.

Madhukalya, in his interaction, said they got help from an alumnus of a JEC, based in the US, who provided Rs 10 lakh funding to set up the start-up. He said it took six months to make the app and they have plans to release the app outside India later on. He said pages having information about the app had been opened in the Facebook and Instagram media platforms.

Dhimam Bhattacharjee, Technical Officer, Advanced computation and data services, CSIR-NEIST, Jorhat was the chief guest at the release ceremony.
