3 students do Goalpara proud

GOALPARA, May 31 - In an eventful day, three meritorious students brought laurels to the district as well as to their schools by topping the SEBA-conducted HSLC 2016 examination today.

Ellius Bakhtiar from Faringapara High School (Lakhipur) who got 586/600 marks secured the 3rd position, while Karabi Devi from Sankardev Sishu Niketan, Dudhnoi, who secured 573/600 marks and Suruj Pratim Borah from Sankardev Sishu Niketan, Agia (examination centre at JN Memorial HS School) who got 571/600 marks secured the 13th and the 15th positions respectively.

Even though the aforementioned three students achieved outstanding results, the overall position in the district is not very encouraging and some genuine efforts are required to reach the desired level, as out of the total of 10,767 students appearing for the exams, 899 secured 1st division, 1,988 secured 2nd division, while 2,525 secured 3rd division with an overall pass percentage of 50.26, which is far below the State average of 62.79 percent.

Among the Government schools, from PR Government HS School, Goalpara, four students secured 1st division, 17 secured 2nd division and 23 students secured 3rd division out of a total of 73 students with a pass percentage of 60.27% while from Central Girls' High School, 19 students secured 1st division, 23 secured 2nd division while five secured 3rd division from among a total of 88 students with a pass percentage of 72 per cent.
