3 securitymen who hid seized gold biscuits absconding

By CITY CORRESPONDENT

GUWAHATI, Feb 11 - Three security personnel attached with the Dispur Police Station a sub-inspector, a havildar and a home guard who were charged with concealing gold biscuits worth Rs 4 crore that were seized from smugglers, remain untraced for about a week now.

Commissioner of Police Deepak Kumar today said a case has been registered against the trio and a hunt is on to nab them.

SI Nipu Kalita, Havildar Faizur Rehman and Home Guard Afzal Ali had reportedly chased three gold smugglers on the Jorabat-Nongpoh road on January 15. They had reportedly seized 60 gold biscuits from the smugglers at Nongpoh, but had later released them.

Kalita and his team allegedly did not report the seizure to senior officials.

Kalitas deed came to light when one of three smugglers appeared at the Dispur PS on February 4 and revealed the incident. The three smugglers Wahajutil Shah, Wahidur Rahman and Ajmil, all from Manipur are now in custody at the Dispur PS.

Kalita and the two other personnel, who were suspended with immediate effect after the incident came to light, are absconding since then. We are trying to locate them, a police official said.
