AGARTALA, June 16 - Three Nigerian nationals have been arrested by Khowai Police for travelling on Indian soil without any valid documents, official sources said here today. A local driver was also held along with them.

Police said that all the three arrested Nigerians were going to the flood-ravaged Khowai town on Friday in a private vehicle hired from Belonia, a border subdivision of South Tripura district. When they reached Sonatala, their vehicle got stuck in the floodwaters. The police detained them on suspicion and frisked them.

During the search operation, the police found three passports and some foreign SIM cards from the three Nigerians identified as Endurance Eddy (34), Franklin Chinasa Onibubi (40) and Ekene Ezekiel (42). The trio possessed a valid visa for stay in neighbouring Bangladesh alone. The police also held the local driver, Debabarta Das (28).

All the three foreign nationals and the driver were arrested under the Indian Passport Act. Further investigation is on, police sources said.
