3 Manipur Rifles men suspended

IMPHAL, June 9 - Three personnel of Manipur Rifles (MR) and Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) have been suspended from their services for their alleged involvement in stealing ammunition from the State DGP pool arms.

The three suspended personnel are riflemen Simon Gurung, of 4th IRB, Fimrothang Hmar, 1st IRB and Asem Boiton Singh, 1st MR.

Disclosing this to media here this evening, DGP Manipur LM Khaute said a departmental inquiry has been ordered and investigation is on. �All angles will be examined and stringent action will be taken,� he said.

He said, a combined team of Bishnupur police and 25 Assam Rifles arrested the three persons including Gurung while checking a car at Kangvai area, along Imphal-Churachandpur road and recovered 2,780 rounds of AK rifles ammunition from their possession on May 30 last.

Of the other two arrested, Haokip is said to be a cadre of the armed group Kuki Liberation Army. From their disclosure, two other riflemen in State police were arrested and remanded in police custody.
