3 Manipur insurgents killed in encounter

IMPHAL, Sept 6 - A combined team of Assam Rifles and 6 Dogra gunned down three suspected cadres of the People�s Liberation Army (PLA), the armed wing of banned Revolutionary People�s Front (RPF) in an encounter near the Indo-Myanmar border on Saturday, sources said.

The patrols were fired upon by undergrounds hiding between B Bongjang and T Motjang, said Assam Rifles (South) in a press release on Sunday. Assam Rifles troops retaliated instantly and were engaged in a firefight for close to 60 minutes. In the ensuing encounter, two ultras were killed on the spot.

Taking advantage of the proximity of the international border, the remaining ultras fled into Myanmar, the release claimed. There are reports of two more ultras being injured during the incident.

During the course of search operation, one AK 47 rifle along with magazine, two 9mm pistols, two mobile phones, Myanmarese currency (16,23,450 Kyats), etc., were recovered,� it added. The bodies of the two ultras and the recovered weapons were handed over to the Moreh police.

Meanwhile, the RPF has admitted that another ultra succumbed to injuries.
