3 held in trader killing case

By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, Oct 23 The politician-militant nexus once again came to the fore with Assam Police arresting three persons, including two politicians and a former NDFB cadre, in connection with the killing of city-based trader Bolen Das on September 14.

Investigators divulged that of the six persons involved in the incident, three have been arrested while two are on the run. Moshram Boro, a surrendered NDFB cadre, who provided all the information about the movement and activities of Bolen Das, is dead.

Moshram was beaten to death by public when he tried to attempt a robbery in Barama on October 18, police said.

Those arrested include Kulen Basumatary (Ex BLT), who contested the 2011 Assembly election from Barama constituency as an independent candidate, Pradeep Boro, one of the candidates of 2011 BTAD council election and B Maharaja.

Briefing the media on the breakthrough, IGP (CWR) GP Singh said, Moshram Boro had fled from the NDFB designated camp (Borbori) in 2008 and subsequently surrendered before the police in 2009. After that he stayed with Kulen Basumuatary for almost one-and-a-half years in the latters residence in Barama.

On the day when the Bolen Das was attacked, the entire team met at Rajgarh in the house of Pradeep Boro, where the final blueprint was prepared. After firing at Bolen Das around 10 .30 on September 14, the team moved out of the city in a Scorpio owned by Kulen Basumatary. We have recovered the weapon and sent in for forensic examination, Singh said.

Singh who addressed the media jointly with SSP (City) Deepak Choudhury said that investigators got vital clues from the five cell phones which the miscreants snatched from the trader along with the cash.

As Das also dealt in cell phone recharge vouchers, he kept five cell phones with him, Singh said, adding that the cell phone of Moshram Boro was also recovered during investigation.
