3-day Janmastami fest from tomorrow

GUWAHATI, Sept 2 - Hare Krishna Movement, Guwahati and the Akshaya Patra Foundation (Guwahati branch) are going to celebrate Sri Krishna Janmastami with traditional fanfare at the Sonaram Field here from September 4.

The three-day extravaganza will include a wide range of activities, all aimed at promoting brotherhood and spiritual enlightenment among the masses and particularly, the younger generation.

Apart from the rituals that will be observed in connection with the worship of the Lord, the organisers will hold an inter-college cultural fest in association with the Directorate of Cultural Affairs, Government of Assam. The programme is scheduled on all the three days. According to the organisers, this is going to be a platform for youngsters to showcase their talent on India�s cultural heritage in performing classical arts and thereby promote the rich cultural heritage of the north-eastern region.

It needs to be mentioned here that the organisers are also going to conduct a cultural event for the school students (from 1 to 10th standard) to give them an opportunity to participate in cultural activities that have been organised as part of this festival. The children will get the scope to participate in various cultural events like Gita sloka chanting, colouring, painting, classical dance, Puranic costume, vocal music and Rangoli. This programme too is going to be held on all the three days.

Also, eminent artistes of the country and State will be sharing the stage to showcase the cultural ethos of the north-eastern region in the performing arts. Performing art forms like Naam-Kirtan, Bhortal Nritya, Bharat Natyam, Sattriya Nritya, Loka-Badya, Kathak Nritya, Odishi Nritya, Ankiya Naat and Nritya-Natika and Bhaona will be presented from 4pm onwards till midnight on all the three days.

Janardhana Dasa, president of Hare Krishna Movement, Guwahati, has appealed to the people of the city, irrespective of caste, creed and race, to participate in the Sri Janmastami Festival with families on all the three days and relish the spirit of brotherhood and humanity and experience true spiritual bliss.

A Satvik food festival is also included in the programme.
