3 arrested with drugs

JORHAT, Aug 6 - Jorhat Police on late Monday night arrested three persons, including two minor boys, from near the yard of the Jorhat Provincial Railway Yard and recovered about 13 grams of narcotics, suspected to be brown sugar, from their possession.

A police official said that a girl, identified as Diksa alias Dimpy Das (19), of Borigaon here, along with two minors, were apprehended from near the railway yard by a police patrolling party when the three of them were riding a scooty.

The policemen asked the trio to stop and then questioned and searched them after which the suspected brown sugar was found inside a box from their possession. During interrogation, the trio has reportedly told police that they had brought narcotic from Dimapur by boarding a train, the official said.

Police have taken possession of the scooty. The official said that a case (No.2011/2019) has been registered in this regard at the Jorhat Police Station under Section 21 (B) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.

The official said samples of the suspected narcotic substance will be sent to the State Forensic Science Laboratory in Guwahati for necessary tests for confirmation.
