JORHAT, Dec 22 - Police today arrested three persons from different areas here on charges of drug peddling and recovered suspected narcotic substances from one of them.
A police source stated that police first arrested Dipen Das from his house at Huwanigaon near Bhogdoi river and recovered 36 grams of a narcotic substance suspected to be brown sugar. It may be mentioned here that Dipen was earlier was arrested by Jorhat Police in April this year in an arms case after a pistol was recovered from his possession.
Police later apprehended Janardan Das and Suraj Das separately from two localities of Borigaon on charges of peddling narcotic substances. The duo was earlier several times arrested and sent to judicial custody for criminal activities, the source informed. The three were booked under relevant sections of the Narcotics Drugs Psychotropic Substances Act.
Investigation was on and samples of the recovered substance from the possession of Das will be sent for examination to State Forensic Science Laboratory in Guwahati, the source stated.
It may be mentioned here that in the past few months, Jorhat Police has arrested about 20 persons on charges of drug peddling with three among the arrested men arrested last month with suspected narcotic substances.
