TURA, March 12 � In another incident of public anger against extortions, three militants were lynched by the villagers of Majipara, near the border of Assam-Meghalaya, late on Monday night. The three ultras had gone there to extort money but angry residents of the village lynched them after a call to the nearby Kharkutta Police Outpost evoked no response.
The police reached the village the next morning by which time the three ultras had been dead for hours. A dispute arose regarding the claiming of the bodies of the militants. The police maintained that the bodies were in Assam and the matter needed to be handled by the Assam Police. But the villagers asserted that the incident happened in Meghalaya and the Kharkutta police was trying to shift avoid responsibility.
The killed militants have been identified as Willick Ch Momin (30) of Rongbu and Sengbith Sangma (27). The third identified as Luck R Marak (30) is also from Adokgre. Locals said there was a fourth but he was able to escape. Their bodies were taken to Dudhnoi for post mortem. A double barrel gun was recovered along with mobile phones.
