2nd swine flu case detected in Nagaland

DIMAPUR, Feb 21 � A 27 year-old man has tested positive for H1N1 virus, the second case of swine flu in Dimapur town in last four days.

The man, a Naga, was admitted to Dimapur civil hospital on Friday after he complained of some sinus-like symptom. The hospital authorities took his blood sample and sent it to Dibrugarh for test. The test results have confirmed he was suffering from swine flu.

Director of Medical Health & Family Welfare Dr Sukhato A Sema said the patient had returned to Dimapur on Friday after spending two weeks in Delhi. He confirmed that the blood sample of the patient has tested positive for H1N1 virus.

On February 18, a Naga woman, based at Chennai, had been diagnosed with H1N1 virus after being admitted to the Dimapur civil hospital.

Both the patients have been admitted to isolation wards in the Dimapur district hospital, Dr Sema said.

Meanwhile, Commissioner and Secretary, Health & Family Welfare (H&FW) Sentiyanger held a video conferencing with all the district chief medical officers and medical superintendents for discussing pertinent issues relating to swine flu and also to review the state of preparedness in tackling the H1N1 virus in the State.

Earlier, in an official release, H & FW deputy director Dr Tiasunup Pongener, who is also the State Nodal Officer for Integrated Disease Surveillance Project (IDSP), said the department�s surveillance network is fully prepared to tackle H1N1 virus. The department had placed orders for 1000 tablets of Oseltamivir and 100 bottles of Susp Oseltamivir from the Central Government to counter H1N1 flu.

Dr Pongener has asked the public not to panic and assured that the department is capable of handling the situation. Further, advising people not to go for self-medication in case of having symptoms of H1N1 flu, he asked people to report to the nearest medical centre.
