27 people from State evacuated

NEW ELHI, April 26 � At least 27 persons from Assam have been evacuated from disaster-hit Nepal and brought to the national capital. The Assam Government has facilitated their return home.

In a prompt action, the State Government operanalised a helpline number 011 2611644 here and set up a control room to coordinate with the Central Government authorities and facilitate their return to Assam.

The control room is functioning from 7 am to 10 pm, informed PK Dutta, Deputy Director of the Assam Information Centre, New Delhi.

According to Dutta, 18 persons were evacuated from Nepal last night itself and they reached New Delhi around 1 am.

The State Government has arranged for their accommodation in hotels here and arranged for their air tickets as well. Of the total number of persons rescued, 18 returned to Assam today, Dutta informed.

Those who were evacuated were Rajat Roy, Rajeev Singh, Rumpy Nandi, Angel Liza Lymbai, Zohan Hussain, Kunal Dhawan, Deepak Bhatia, Bilkish Amin, Dhiraj Goswami, Ashok Bharali, Archana Bharali, Dishant Bharali, Krishant Bharali, Jyotish Lahkar, Sraya Lahkar, Nilima Chaudhary, Gitartha Choudhary and Ankur Chaudhary.

Dutta added that at least eight persons were expected to arrive in the national capital this evening.

Meanwhile, a 10-member mountaineering team from Assam, which had gone to scale Mount Everest, is safe and reportedly returning, according to information reaching here.
