26th Manipuri Language Day to be observed today

GUWAHATI, Aug 19 - Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Assam, Head Quarter, Silchar in collaboration with Manipuri Sahitya Parishad Assam, Kamrup District Committee is going to observe the 26th Manipuri Language Day on August 20 at the Guwahati Press Club here, stated a press release.

This is the day on which Manipuri language was included in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution of India in 1992.

The programme will begin with flag hoisting of the parishad at 10.30 am by Dr Karam lbunghal, president, Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Assam which will be followed by floral tributes to people who sacrificed their lives for their mother tongue. Dr Paramananda Rajbongshi, secretary general, Asam Sahitya Sabha will be the chief guest of the programme.

Laishram Taranikanta, Joint Director, Press Information Bureau, Govt of India and Dr Phuritsabam Birmani, Editor, Echema & Arambal will be the guest of the programme. Dr Hourambam Rajmani Singha, Assistant Professor, Assam University, Silchar will deliver a talk on the Language Day as a resource person. Many delegates from Silchar, Hailakandi, Karimganj, Hojai are also expected to attend the programme. A book written by M Bhagat will also be released.

The programme will be concluded with a Kavi Sammelan. It will be inaugurated by Kh Dilip Singha, president, Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Assam, Kamrup District Committee.
