SILCHAR, Dec 18 - Cachar Deputy Commissioner Dr S Laxmanan informed that there is no reason to panic if names of applicants are not included in the first draft of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) since the Register General of India (RGI) has issued an order which clearly mentions that after the comprehensive list is prepared, the applicants will have a fair opportunity for making claims and objections.
Following the instructions of the Supreme Court of India, the RGI has issued a notice for entertaining claims and objections after the preparation, the Deputy Commissioner informed.
On the other hand, the Deputy Commissioner expressed concern over the large number of fake birth as well as marriage certificates submitted by people as evidence along with their NRC application forms.
We have found a large number of birth and marriage certificates which are difficult to trace in Govt records. Hence, the documents will be scanned again to obtain legitimate records, Dr Laxmanan said.
Echoing the Deputy Commissioners concern, Dr SJ Das, Joint Director of Health Services, Cachar said that of the mismatched documents, most have been submitted in Borkhola, Bikrampore and Silchar (Urban) PHCs.
Meanwhile, the Cachar Deputy Commissioner informed that in a bid to ensure smooth conclusion of the ongoing process of re-verification of the documents for NRC, as many as 2, 56,757 application forms have been verified across Cachar district till the evening of December 17.
We are maintaining an impressive pace in re-verification of the documents for the NRC and the field-level verification is likely to be over by December 25, following which the list would be sent to the office of the Deputy Commissioner and subsequently to the officials at the respective NSKs for the final chart to be sent for the Draft Part-1 of the NRC, Dr Laxmanan maintained.
