KARIMGANJ, Nov 10 � In all, 24 flood-affected families of village Satkarakandi Gaon Panchayat will get Indira Awas households within a short period.
This decision was taken at a meeting of the Gaon Panchayat which was held at Satkarakandi LP School recently.
The gram sabha had adopted a resolution that 24 poor flood-affected families be allotted Indira Awas households during this financial year.
Initially the Gaon Panchayat secretary Sifta Uddin Mazumder explained the purpose of the gram sabha meet. He disclosed that this gaon panchayat had received a total of 46 IAY units and Silchar MP Sushmita Deb and Sonai MLA Enamul Haque Laskar had requested the gaon panchayat to help at least 24 poor families who were affected by river bank erosion. Besides this, two IAY were reserved for handicapped families.
Hari naam kirtan: The Silchar branch of ISKCON recently organised �Hari Naam Kirtan� at Silchar Central Jail.
Altogether, 506 jail inmates spontaneously participated in the �Kirtan�. Nirvay Das Maharaj, director of Silchar branch of ISKCON said that their objective was to spread �Hari naam� among the inmates of Silchar jail and to encourage the inmates belonging to different castes, religions and communities to join the naam kirtan.
He disclosed that this programme was being performed by all the ISKCON branches throughout the world. ISKCON was also observing this month as �Damodar month�, he said. Hari Naam� is capable of bringing peace and harmony among the all sections of people, he said.
It may be mentioned that the founder of ISKCON, Sree Sree Prabhupad encouraged his followers to spread �Harinaam� all over the world.
Earlier, this festival was inaugurated by Nirvay Das by lighting the ceremonial lamp in front of the portrait of Sri Sri Prabhupada.
