GUWAHATI, Feb 21 It was a disappointing opening day of the two-day quarterfinal match of the Elite Group Nuruddin Trophy Senior Inter District Cricket Tournament between Dibrugarh and Goalpara as altogether 22 wickets fell at the Nehru Stadium here today.
Electing to bat first, Dibrugarh were all out for 125 in 35 overs. Most of the batsmen were out while going for rush shots. Openers Utpal Deka (27) and Jyotiraditya Chetia (21) added 40 runs for the first wicket, but after that wickets started falling at regular intervals. Salim Ahmed (27) tried to put some resistance in the middle order which was also not enough as he did not get any support.
However, some irresponsible batting by Goalpara batsmen paved the way for Dibrugarh in taking a thin but vital 28-run first innings lead as they were all out for 97 in 43.5 overs. Bishal Mogor was their top scorer with 21. Four of their batsmen were out before opening accounts while three were out before reaching double figure.
Ranji player Deepak Gohain was the wrecker in chief with a rich seven wicket haul.
In the second innings, Dibrugarh lost three wickets for 27 when stumps were drawn for the day.
