UDALGURI, June 11 - Even as 22 persons were picked up by local police for interrogation in regard to yesterday�s unsavoury incident, ADGP LR Bishnoi, who is incharge of law and order of the BTC region, today visited Udalguri and took stock of the prevailing situation. He appealed to the general public not to be swayed by rumours.

He subsequently attended a peace meeting arranged by the Udalguri district administration at the DC�s Conference Hall and appealed to all sections of people in the district to follow the rule of law and maintain peace and tranquility even in the face of utmost provocation.

Addressing the peace meeting, the police officer maintained that the anti-social elements would be punished as per law and sought cooperation from all sections of the society. The peace meeting was attended by a sizeable section of social and students� organisations.

Meanwhile, the Udalguri police were hopeful that they would soon be able to apprehend the culprits involved in yesterday�s incident of beating a local young businessman of the town suspecting him to be a child-lifter.

Incidentally, the condition of the victim named Dipankar Deuri is stated to be out of danger.
