22 injured in bus mishap

SHILLONG, Nov 1 - As many as 22 persons were injured, some of them critically, when a bus ferrying BSF jawans met with an accident on the Jaintia Hills on Thursday.

The mishap happened at Umtyra in East Jaintia Hills district last evening when the bus lost control and rolled into a deep gorge. The bus, which was on its way to Silchar in Assam, was carrying soldiers of A-coy, 93 Battalion, BSF.

The injured were first shifted to the nearest civil hospitals at Khiehlriat and Jowai. However, they were shifted to the NEIGRIHMS today.

According to NEIGRIHMS officials, three patients have been admitted to the ICU, five are being treated in the Orthopaedics ward, three in the Casualty ward, one in the Neurosurgery ward and one in the General Surgery ward. The rest have been discharged after necessary treatment.
