213 ILP defaulters detected in Kohima

By Correspondent

DIMAPUR, May 6 The Kohima Village Youth Organisation (KVYO) today conducted a surprise checking of Inner Line Permit (ILP) of non-locals belonging to the Muslim community.

Talking to this correspondent, KVYO vice president Peter Rutsa said Saturdays checking detected a total of 213 persons belonging to the Muslim community without any permit. He said around 100 of the first batch were handed over to the district administration while the remaining were let off with stern warnings.

He informed that the defaulters were mainly mason workers and other labourers while those involved in business were found to be in possession of valid permits and related documents.

KVYO president Dzieseneituo Belho said the checking is being conducted due to the concern over rising number of illegal immigrants in and around the State capital. They are being brought in by their relatives while Nagas are also helping in the influx by engaging them as cheap labour and acting as their guarantors, he said.

Meanwhile, taking the opportunity of the ILP checking, the Muslim Welfare Society Kohima (MWSK) also penalised those without the ID card issued by the Society. The officials and volunteers of MWSK are also helping in identifying the genuine Indian citizens with proper ILP and other documents by issuing ID cards.
