TURA, April 8 - One of the victims of the September 30, 2005 police firing incident, Becking R Marak, who had been living in absolute pain since the incident in which he suffered multiple gun shot wounds, passed away at his residence in Dalu on Wednesday. His last rites were performed yesterday in the midst of friends, well wishers and family.

The Black Friday incident was one of the darkest in the history of Garo Hills with many youths losing their lives and many like Becking carrying the scars for their life time. The victims of the incident are remembered every year on September 30 every year.

Becking, who was living on an iron spine due to the spinal injury he suffered, was working in a government job, which he got after the incident, though he remained bed- ridden almost entirely after the incident.

Becking was going to be 37 this August 8. Marak had completed his Bachelors Degree and was pursuing his Masters from NEHU when he was hit during the incident. He had to leave studies following the incident.

He was taken to Vellore in Tamil Nadu immediately after the injury where surgery was performed on his spine from which he never recovered. He was visited occasionally by people from across the region though the visits decreased with time.
