SILCHAR, June 3 - In all, 20 persons were arrested in connection with a mob violence following the death of a 10-year-old girl named Lalramthen Hmar of 438 Fulertal Hmar LP School in Hmarkhawlien under Lakhipur constituency of Cachar district after a lorry ran over the child. It may be mentioned that a tense situation prevailed at Hmarkhawlien throughout Friday night following the incident as a mob staged a road blockade. The situation soon became volatile as the mob started pelting stones and attacked the police. Several rounds of rubber bullets and tear gas shells were fired to disperse the mob. Cachar SP Rakesh Rousan informed that at least 6 police personnel sustained serious injuries during the operation to bring the mob fury under control. Mild caning had to be resorted to in order to bring the situation under control. �We urge the people of the district not to take the law into their hands, and on the contrary, cooperate with the police,� the Cachar SP said.
