DIGBOI, April 24 - Two youths, identified as Bikash Kumar Sharma (20) from the Dhan Bazar area and Rikash Pradhan (20) from the Balukhad area, both under Margherita police station in Tinsukia district, were arrested in the wee hours of Monday for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl of the area, at Namdang tea garden on the April 16 night.
According to the police, Sharma, a neighbour of the girl, allegedly took her away from a Bihu programme, which was under way at the Central Field of Margherita, to a garden where his accomplice Rikash Pradhan was waiting for them.
After that Bikash Sharma fetched her back and raped her again near Dhan Bazar the same night. The matter came to light on Monday evening after the girl revealed it to her mother, following which the latter informed the police, which immediately apprehended the duo in a late night operation.
Meanwhile, the Margherita police has registered a case (no. 103/18) under Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
The accused were today presented before the magistrate who remanded them in judicial custody.
