2 shot at, Rs 11.58 lakh looted in Jorhat

JORHAT, March 3 � Two employees of Kharikatiya Tea Estate, Amrit Sarma, accountant and Jagannath Goraik, driver, were shot at with pistols by two miscreants near Cinnamora Railway gate around 2-10 pm today. The miscreants who came on a Pulsar bike without number plate snatched away Rs 11.58 lakh from the duo after firing at them with 9mm pistols.

According to a police source the accountant and the driver after drawing the money from Panjab National Bank, Jorhat Branch to provide bonus to the workers of the tea garden before Holi were going back to the tea estate in a Bolero.

As the railway gate was closed at that time near Cinnamora to make way for a train, the Bolero stopped near it. The miscreants went near the Bolero and shot twice in the right leg of Amrit Sarma and snatched away the bag full of currency notes. The miscreants also shot at the driver of the Bolero who tried to flee, and injured him in the knee and in the hand.

Then miscreants fired into the air and went away from the scene safely. The injured duo was immediately admitted to the Jorhat Medical College and Hospital.
