TEZPUR, March 20 � The BJP candidate Ram Prashad Sarma and CPI(M) candidate Khem Raj Adhikari, who are contesting for the Tezpur parliamentary seat in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls to be held here on April 7, filed their nomination papers today before Lalit Gogoi, the Sonitpur district Deputy Commissioner-cum-Returning Officer.

Lottery baron and former Member of Parliament Mani Kumar Subba arrived here today to file his nomination papers as an independent candidate tomorrow. He addressed two public meetings at Dhekiajuli and Joymati Pathar here. Addressing the people, he claimed that he is contesting the election as an independent candidate because the poor people of the constituency have urged him to do so.

The political scene in Tezpur has taken a new turn with Sikha Sarma also declaring that she would contest the forthcoming parliamentary election as an independent candidate.

It may be mentioned that Sikha Sarma had filed an FIR against Subba for alleged molestation.
