DIMAPUR, April 8 - Two Naga officers Kohima SDPO Atu Zumvu and Captain Elisen Y Jami were decorated with prestigious Shaurya Chakra at a grand function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Thursday.

The awards were conferred by President Pranab Mukherjee in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Zumvu is posted as SDPO in Kohima while Captain Jami is from 12 Parachute Regiment. Zumvu is the first police officer from Nagaland Police to be conferred with Shaurya Chakra after Nagaland achieved Statehood in 1963.

He displayed exemplary courage in apprehending three NDFB militants during a search and special operation on January 14, 2015. The militants were responsible for the massacre of 81 innocent people on December 23, 2014 in Guwahati. He also risked his life and apprehended two NSCN cadres, responsible for abduction of truck drivers from Manipur in 2015.

Captain Jami was honoured for his act of gallantry in carrying out special operation in the jungles adjoining Aghunato village in Zunheboto district in 2015.
