By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, July 25 - In a tragic incident, a mother-daughter duo lost their lives in the 13th Mile area on the citys outskirts after a portion of the boundary wall of a nearby property collapsed during last nights torrential downpour and fell on their house, demolishing the house and killing them.

The incident happened at Tamulkuchi, Jorabat around 10.30 pm last night. However, the bodies could be retrieved only around 3.30 am today due to heavy rainfall and mudslide in the locality.

The dead have been identified as Bharati Boro (34) and her daughter Anamika Boro (14). Bharatis husband Dinesh Boro also sustained minor injuries during the incident.

The nine-ten-foot high boundary wall was enclosing a plot of land owned by city-based businessman Rajesh Himatsingka.

A portion of the wall collapsed due to heavy flow of water from the hills during rain. The house of the victims was located at a place which was at a height lower than the wall. A part of the wall collapsed and fell on the house of the Boros, said a senior official of the Kamrup Metro district administration.

The district administration has ordered an inquiry into the incident. The inquiry will be conducted by Sonpaur Circle Officer and Executive Magistrate Munin Nate.

The inquiry was ordered following complaints that the foundation of the wall was weak and not built according to proper specifications, which resulted in its collapse. Nate has been ordered to submit his report at the earliest.

Based on the reports findings, the administration will decide what action, if necessary, is to be taken against the owner of the property, said the official.

Meanwhile, speaking to The Assam Tribune, Kamrup Metro Deputy Commissioner (In-charge) Rajib Prakash Barua said that an amount of Rs 20,000 has been declared as an interim relief to the family of the victims.

Orders have also been issued to the Sonapur Circle Officer to inspect all the boundary walls in the area and demolish those which are found to be unsafe or have weak foundations, to prevent recurrence of last nights tragic incident, Barua said.
