2 hurt in city grenade blast

GUWAHATI, Feb 28 � Two days before the Budget session of the Assam Legislative Assembly is scheduled to begin, unidentified miscreants today lobbed a grenade near Punjab National Bank on the RG Baruah Road around 6:05 this evening, injuring two persons.

The injured have been shifted to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital and their condition is stated to be out of danger.

The grenade, according to police, was lobbed from the other side of the road and exploded near an auto rickshaw which was moving towards Ganeshguri. The driver of the auto-rickshaw is among one of the injured.

Senior Superintendant of Police (City) Apurva Jeevan Baruah talking to reporters a few minutes after the blast said that the matter is being investigated and involvement of any group or individual is yet to be ascertained.

A team of forensic experts also reached the spot and collected the samples from the blast site. DC, Kamrup Metro, Ashutosh Agnihotri, IGP (CWR) GP Singh and other senior police officials also reached the blast site.
