2 file papers for RS polls

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Dec 12 Congress' Pankaj Bora and Independent Jesim Raja filed their nomination papers for the lone Rajya Sabha seat of the State that has fallen vacant due to the untimely demise of Silvius Condpan.

State Assembly Secretary and Returning Officer of the Rajya Sabha elections G P Das told this newspaper that Raja filed his papers without the signature of any proposer. It is mandatory that ten MLAs should put their signature on the nomination papers of an aspirant to support his/her candidature for a Rajya Sabha election.

The nomination papers would be scrutinized at 11 am tomorrow and December 15 has been fixed as the date for withdrawal of the candidature. Das said that he is going to write a letter to the Election Commission of India seeking permission to declare the results of the Rajya Sabha election on December 15, in view of the fact that the nomination of Raja is sure to be rejected because of his failure to obtain the signature of ten proposers.

In case the Election Commission refuses to grant such permission, the result of the Rajya Sabha election would be declared on December 22, Das said.
