2 die as storm hits Arunachal�s Diyun

ITANAGAR, April 30 - Two minor girls, including a one-and-a-half-year old infant, were killed when a cyclonic storm accompanied by heavy rains and hailstorm struck Diyun area in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh.

The heart-rending incident occurred at Avoipur village under Diyun Circle of Changlang on Thursday last. The deceased have been identified as Siji Chakma and Kalasogi Chakma (14).

Several houses especially those constructed with bamboo and wood were completely damaged in the catastrophe. The damages are estimated to be in crores of rupees especially in villages of Avoipur, Dumpani, Jyotipur, Shantipur and Bijoypur, and Diyun town.

Diyun EAC Tagam Mibang informed that the cyclonic storm which was followed by heavy rains left a trail of devastation and heavy damages in the entire Diyun Circle. �Many trees got uprooted and electric poles were damaged, while communication and electricity is totally disrupted,� he said.

Governor JP Rajkhowa has announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 1 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased girls from the Governor�s Relief Fund, while CM Kalikho Pul announced ex-gratia relief of Rs 4 lakh to the next of kin.
