GUWAHATI, Dec 23 - The two-day �Regional Conference on Good Governance and Replication of Best Practices�, organised by the Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances (DARPG), Government of India, in collaboration with the Department of Administrative Reforms of Assam, concluded here today.
Addressing the valedictory session, KV Eapen, Secretary, DARPG, said that administrative reforms is now a priority area and urged official to come out with innovative ideas for bringing about good governance.
�Administrative reforms should now become much more influential,� he said.
Eapen added that huge participation of officials at the seminar is a manifestation of officials taking interest in initiating good governance all over the country.
Earlier, a number of technical sessions were held on a diverse range of topics.
In the session on �Good Governance Index for Ranking of States�, resource speaker Shabeer Sheikh pointed out that there are five major indications to rank any State on performance level and five categories � Union Territories, North East and Hill States, other States � have been made.
�Ranking States is intended to improve governance for citizens. Ranking is competitive federalism,� he said.
On issues of good governance in North Eastern States, speakers pointed out that lack of internet connectivity is a hurdle in service delivery to the public.
On the topic of �Issues on Good Governance with special reference to Assam Government Website�, resource person Suchitra Pyarelal said websites are now citizen-centric and they cater to all age groups and there is continuous update on information by all Government departments.
Around 150 participants from 22 States took part in the conference.
