By CORRESPONDENT

TEZPUR, March 25 Two police personnel were injured in a major ambush by the National Democratic Front of Boroland (Songbijit faction) near the Bombay centre under the Mazbat Police Station this morning.

AP Raut, Additional Director General of Police (Law & Order), said that the militants fired upon a team of police and CRPF Cobra which had gone to the area for an operation. Two policemen were injured in the attack.

Police, too, fired in retaliation but the casualty on the militant side is yet to be confirmed, he said.

A huge cache of arms and ammunation has been recovered by the police, which included four grenades, a carbine, an AK-series magazine with 80 live cartridges, five mobile handsets and some documents, Raut said.

Meanwhile, the Songbijit faction of the NDFB, in an email, has taken the responsibility for the attack. The outfit also mentioned that their operation will continue till April 7 midnight.

It may be mentioned that the NDFB (Songbijit) has of late stepped up its activities in several districts of the State. Security forces fear that the outfit will pull out all stops to disrupt the ensuing elections.
