DIPHU, June 9 - In a barbaric incident, two youths, who were wrongly suspected to be child lifters, were lynched by a mob at Panjuri village under Dokmoka police station in Karbi Anglong district around 7:30 on Friday.

Police said, two Guwahati youths Nilotpal Das (29), a sound engineer now based in Mumbai, and his artiste friend Abhijeet Nath (30) had gone to the picnic spot Kangthilangso in the district last evening to capture the sounds of nature. But the local people mistook the youths in their casual outfits and hairstyle, to be child lifters and beat them mercilessly, they added.

Dokmoka police stations officer in-charge KS Khowbung said both the victims were returning from Kangthilangso in a Scorpio when a mob of around 200 people stopped their vehicle, dragged them out and beat them mercilessly.

The seriously injured duo was rushed to a hospital but they died on the way. Mortal remains of the two victims have been sent to Guwahati after completing the inquest in Diphu Civil Hospital.
