2 beheaded at Tocklai TE

JORHAT, May 16 � Sensation prevails in Tocklai Tea Estate area here after two persons, Bolo Tanti (42) and his brother Ruhi Tanti (45) of Borline, Tocklai TE, were beheaded by a group of nine youths around 9 this morning.

Seven of nine killers subsequently surrendered at Cinnamara Police Outpost with the heads of the victims.

According to a source, both Ruhi and Bolo were acting as middlemen in land deals in the area and sold off lands belonging to the poor people of the tea garden by force. They had been terrorizing the entire Borline area.

Subha Tanti, one of the wives of Bolo Tanti, had been a Congress ward member of No.54 Gaon Panchayat. Taking advantage of this, the brothers tried to oppress the people of the locality. Both reportedly had three wives each.

The nine murderers broke into two groups and attacked both at the same time. Bolo was coming towards his home riding a motorbike when a group of four persons attacked him with sharp weapons and beheaded him. Ruhi, who was working in the tea garden at the time, was attacked by another group comprising five youths. They too chopped off his head. Then, two of the murderers, Gobin Manki (21) and Aghon Tanti (19), went to the Cinnamara Police Outpost with the severed heads inside a bag riding Bolo�s motorcycle.

Five other youths � Rajen Satnami (18), Pintu Tanti (25), Madan Tanti (27), Pradip Tanti (21) and Bimal Tanti (20) � surrendered before the police of Cinnamara Outpost subsequently with the weapons in their hands. Two other killers, Suresh Mirdha (22) and Sankar Bauri (23), were later arrested by the police.

A police official, while talking to this correspondent, did not rule out the involvement of a third party in the twin murder, which, he said, would come to light only after proper investigation.
