2 Assam Rifles men killed

IMPHAL, Nov 12 � Two personnel of 26 Assam Rifles have been killed and three others injured in a suspected militant strike near a border village in Manipur�s Churachandpur district on Tuesday, reports said.

Sources said yesterday�s bomb attack was followed by gunfire. The Assam Rifles team also returned the gunfire resulting in a fierce gun battle.

The sources said suspected militants attacked a patrol team of Assam Rifles posted at Behiang village under Churachandpur district bordering Myanmar and Mizoram around 11.30 am yesterday.

The two deceased riflemen have been identified as Prabir Sharma and Tarun Ram Cherry while the identities of two of three injured personnel have been established as Suresh Kumar (28), Rifleman and Anje Neyulu (32). The injured personnel have been airlifted to 57 Mountain Division Military Hospital at Leimakhong, reports said.

According to reports, the bodies of the deceased jawans were taken to Imphal for autopsy.
