19 in fray for 4 seats in Karbi Anglong

DIPHU, March 31 - A total of 19 candidates of the BJP, Congress, Hill State Demand Council (HSDC) and other political parties are in the fray for the four Assembly seats in Karbi Anglong. Five candidates have submitted nominations for the Diphu Legislative Assembly Constituency seat.

Sitting Congress MLA Bidya Sing Engleng is contesting again from the Diphu seat. On the other hand, former KAAC CEM Sum Ronghang is also contesting on the BJP ticket from the Diphu constituency. Leftist leader and HSDC candidate Dr Jayanta Rongpi is also contesting this time from the Diphu seat. Merry Kemprai is contesting on a Jan Congress Party ticket and Dipendra Rongpi is in the fray as an Independent.

On the other hand, sitting Congress MLA Kharsing Engti, former KAAC CEM and BJP candidate Joyram Engleng and Chomang Kro are in the fray for the Howraghat LAC seat.

Eight candidates have filed nominations for the Bokajan seat. The Congress has given the ticket to sitting MLA Klengdong Engti. The BJP has fielded Dr Nomal Momin in Bokajan. The HSDC is making a bid to recapture the Bokajan constituency by fielding ex-MLA Jagat Sing Engti.

Daniel Momin, Bikha Tokbi, Hemari Rongpi, Sanjay Kemprai and Dewan Rongpi are also contesting from Bokajan from the NPP, Jan Congress Party, as an Independent, Bharatiya Bima Morcha and as an Independent respectively.

On the other hand, three candidates have been fielded this time by three political parties for the Baithalangso LAC seat. Sitting MLA Dr Mansing Rongpi has been given the ticket by the Congress in Baithalangso. On the other hand, the BJP has given the ticket to Arun Terang, president of the West Karbi Anglong unit of the party. Besides, Holiram Terang, HSDC leader, is also contesting from the Baithalangso LAC seat.
